New Beginnings

As you might know I was asked to add to my current responsibilities the Interim Director of our Hope Gardens Family Center for the past four months. During the four months we’ve had a series of leadership challenges including two evacuations for fire and flood. This week we got relief. The senior leadership team has asked Betty to come to Hope Gardens to take the helm. The two of us will be using this year to create new ministries, develop the spiritual culture of the center, and to train up the next management team to take over in 12-18 months. We will be moving into a small apartment on the Hope Gardens campus for three days a week. This arrangement will not only benefit Hope Gardens famil


Late yesterday afternoon, notification was received it was safe for HOPE GARDEN residents to return home! Once again, the Lord reached down with His mighty hand of protection and held back the hazardous mudslides from impacting Hope Gardens, home to over 225 women, children and seniors. Yesterday, Emergency Services via the Sheriff’s Department issued a mandatory evacuation order due to potentially dangerous mudslides. The evacuation went smoothly and we were able to bring all the women and children to the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles and put them up in the Gym. (We’ve had some practice.) Our biggest challenge was retrieving the children from school and uniting them with their Moms. W

Urgent Prayer Need - Hope Gardens Evacuation

Dear Deed and Truth Partners we are requesting urgent prayer for Hope Gardens, the Women's Facility for URM. Hope Gardens is being evacuated again, this time because of potential mudslides. We have seen God answer specific prayer recently by stopping the flames at the very edge of the property. Prayer was being lifted for the Breath Of God to blow from the inside out and God heard that prayer. Please pray now for the safety of the women and children being evacuated Please pray that the mighty Hand of God stop the advancement of any mud and debris towards the property Please pray for funds to be made available to again house the evacuee Please ask God to show us the specific ways to pray and

New Hats and Exciting Plans for 2018

“Wearing hats” is a common metaphor for assuming multiple roles and responsibilities. I have been wearing several hats since arriving at the Union Rescue Mission two years ago. I recently got a “New Hat” and we are working on some exciting plans for enlarging our ministry impact in 2018. In addition to the “hats” I have already been wearing: Director of Strategic Relationships” and “Staff Pastor” I also assumed the role of Chaplain for the Senior Men who are actually residents of the mission.
