Barber Shop Ministry
In some cultures the Barber Shop is more than just a place to get a haircut. It’s a place where friend’s hang out for hours and community happens. At the URM our new barber has special plans for the new barbershop as well.
Chris is a brand new program graduate and our new barber. He will be managing the space that Deed and Truth recently renovated.
Chris grew up without a dad and fell quickly into gang life in Los Angeles being introduced by his own brother. Drugs, violence, and prison became a way of life at an early age – even led to him dropping out during Junior High. Chris was shot in the face, the chest, and his arm. Fourteen of his friends were murdered and he was not a stranger to street violence.
Eventually Christ got a hold of Chris in prison and over the course of many years of ups and downs Chris found himself at the end himself and came to the URM. Chris graduated two weeks ago and is now our apprentice barber. He admits he’s not that good at it but he sees it as ministry. Chris likes to talk about Jesus and play all sorts of Christian music in the barbershop.
Please pray for Chris’ continued recovery and discipleship. Pray for his Barbershop ministry. Pray for him to get better at it :) :) and for his ministry while the guys are in the shop talking about Jesus.
Haircuts are free but if you want to give a tip he gives it all back to the URM ministry to help other guys find Christ and transformation.
And a big shout out to all of you who support Deed and Truth which enables us to renovate and reopen the barbershop to not only groom them up but to build them up through Chris’ ministry of sharing the good news about Jesus.
Here's a video so you can meet Chris!
